Article 6.2 Ambition Dialogue will be held in conjunction with SBI 65 on 9 November 2026. The Dialogue aims to facilitate interactive, in-depth and constructive peer-to-peer discussions on how cooperative approaches under Article 6.2 support ambition in practice. 

The Ambition Dialogue aims to promote a better understanding of the considerations that inform Parties’ implementation of cooperative approaches, drawing on practical experiences, including challenges encountered, lessons learned and emerging practices, and how these can contribute to enhancing ambition. It also aims to enable broader participation and engagement by Parties and observers at different stages of readiness, fostering an open and inclusive space for mutual learning and exchange.

The Dialogue will focus on authorization under Article 6.2, with particular attention to the considerations that inform Parties’ decisions to authorize internationally transferred mitigation outcomes (ITMOs) for use towards the achievement of an NDC or for use for other international mitigation purposes.

Article 6.2 Ambition Dialogue held in conjunction with SBI 64 promoted understanding of how cooperative approaches have been implemented to date—including challenges, lessons learned, and emerging practices—while enabling broader participation by Parties and observers at varying stages of readiness to foster an open, inclusive space for mutual learning and exchange.

• 11 June: Day 1 focused on Party-level topics, with an emphasis on institutional arrangements for participation in Article 6.2.  
• 13 June: Day 2 shifted to cooperation approach-level topics, for in-depth discussion on key technical design elements.

Topics and Speakers for June 2026 Article 6.2 Ambition Dialogue:

Article 6.2 Ambition Dialogue held in conjunction with SBI 63 offered a deeper, peer-to-peer exchange on participation in and implementation of Article 6.2. The two-day Dialogue featured three-hour sessions each day, focusing on the overarching themes of Achieving Ambition and Accelerating Implementation.

• 10 November: Day 1 - explored how Article 6 can help build mutual trust and enhance collective ambition at the global level.
• 12 November: Day 2 - focused to advancing implementation at the national and cooperative-approach levels, showcasing concrete examples, experiences, challenges, and lessons learned.

Sessions and Speakers for November 2025 Article 6.2 Ambition Dialogue:

The inaugural Article 6.2 Ambition Dialogue, held during SB 62, provided a platform to explore how Article 6 can enhance ambition and cooperation. This was particularly in the context of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), efforts beyond NDCs, and voluntary climate commitments. The Dialogue also focused on issues of benefit-sharing and fairness in cooperative approaches, as well as identifying the capacity-building support and multilateral cooperation needed to address ongoing challenges.
