The “Roadmap to Mission 1.5°C” and the COP Presidencies Troika was established in decision 1/CMA.5, the outcome of the first Global Stocktake “to significantly enhance international cooperation and the international enabling environment to stimulate ambition in the next round of nationally determined contributions (NDCs), with a view to enhancing action and implementation over this critical decade and keeping 1.5°C within reach”.
The Troika aims to raise and reframe ambition for the development process of the next round of NDCs, which can coherently address all pillars of climate action under the 1.5°C umbrella and be underpinned by strengthened targets and implementation frameworks.
Throughout 2024, the COP Presidencies Troika has hosted a series of high-level political convenings (see below). In parallel, the COP 28, COP 29, and COP 30 Presidencies have been collaborating with key thematic and political platforms, including the G20, to channel existing knowledge and resources towards ambitious NDC development.
2025 is now a milestone year - ten years since the adoption of the Paris Agreement, and halfway through this critical decade for course correction. At COP 30 in Belém, we must demonstrate that international cooperation and multilateralism can deliver concrete results in the face of the climate crisis in this critical decade. COP 30 provides a crucial opportunity to build on the progress achieved at COP 28 in Dubai and COP 29 in Baku and further accelerate the implementation of ambitious climate action so that it delivers benefits to all and leaves no one behind.
The COP Presidencies Troika is committed to fostering an inclusive and collaborative approach. We invite all Parties and Partners to join us on this journey, contributing their expertise, resources, and innovation. Together, we can shape the future we want.
