Background

As countries prepare to submit their next round of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0) with targets set for 2035, interest in cooperative approaches under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement is steadily growing. Already, more than three quarters of Parties indicate they intend to make use of Article 6 mechanisms to advance their climate goals.

This High-Level Dialogue, co-organized by the UNFCCC Regional Collaboration Centre for the MENA and South Asia and WGEO, will serve as an implementation lab to explore the pathways for scaling Article 6 action in the region. The event will bring together governments, private sector actors, multilateral development banks, development partners, and civil society to exchange perspectives and shape practical steps for operationalizing high-integrity carbon markets.

Objectives of the Dialogue

• Examine practical steps to ensure high-integrity and high-impact carbon projects under Article 6.
• Identify critical investment bottlenecks and discuss solutions for scaling carbon market activities.
• Shape an actionable roadmap for national and regional engagement, including capacity building.
• Integrate diverse perspectives from governments, civil society, multilateral development banks, development partners, and the private sector.

Policy makers and Designated National Authorities (DNAs), representatives from the private sector and financial institutions, multilateral development banks, UN agencies, NGOs, and advocacy groups working on climate policy and market integrity.
