The Regional Collaboration Centre (RCC) Caribbean recently organized a webinar to delve into the intricacies of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and explore potential opportunities for Haiti's engagement and participation. The webinar, held on September 12th, 2024, featured expert presentations that provided a comprehensive overview of Article 6 mechanisms and their applicability in the context of Haiti. The webinar attracted a diverse audience of over 22 participants from various government ministries.

Objectives

• Raise awareness of Article 6 Instruments (to other government ministries other than the environment)
• Enhance understanding of the core principles and mechanisms of Article 6.
• Promote understanding of Article 6 mechanisms and how they can be used in the context of NDC implementation.

Summary

The webinar served as a valuable platform for Haitian representatives to gain insights into Article 6 and its potential contributions to the country’s climate action goals. In closing, Haiti’s UNFCCC focal point indicated that the country is actively exploring ways to integrate the Article 6 mechanism into their next Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

By participating in the webinar, Haitian representatives gained a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with Article 6 and can now make informed decisions about how to leverage carbon markets to support Haiti’s climate ambitions.
