Abstract

This document provides an update on the extent to which the UNFCCC core budget and project budgets in the UNFCCC trust fund for supplementary activities were funded as at 30 June 2025. Funding for the UNFCCC core budget for the biennium 2024–2025, totalling EUR 74.1 million, was largely on track. The 2024 portion was fully funded, and EUR 37.0 million of the 2025 portion had been received, representing 99.9 per cent of its allocation. In contrast, the UNFCCC trust fund for supplementary activities, which has a biennial budget of EUR 209.8 million, had received only EUR 107.3 million, or 51 per cent, of its total. The distribution of this funding has been inconsistent, with some projects receiving their full allocation from voluntary contributions and others receiving none of their allocation. Overall, while funding the core budget is progressing well, the supplementary fund remains significantly underfunded, limiting support for many important initiatives.
