23 May 2022 Caribbean AGYLE Webinar Series concludes with discussions on Carbon Markets

Over three webinars, the Caribbean AGYLE engaged more than 40 young people from across the region on crucial climate change topics. These informed how young people can help shape a resilient, low-emission future for the Caribbean and contribute to global climate action.

On 23 May 2022, the third and final AGYLE webinar was held to improve knowledge of Carbon markets among young people in the region. The webinar was organized collaboratively by RCC St. George’s and partners with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, GIZ Global Carbon Markets (GCM), MEXICO2, UNICEF, YOUNGO and the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN). It featured various speakers.

Daryl George from the Government of Antigua and Barbuda opened the webinar with a strong statement highlighting the need for countries to use carbon markets to help mitigate climate change. He also underscored that youth participation is critical to this process. Nicolas Muller of UN Climate Change gave a general overview of carbon pricing mechanisms and markets. MEXICO2 then offered practical insights on how youth can get involved in implementing Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

The webinar raised awareness on the subject matter relating to carbon markets as a policy instrument, the foundations of the UNFCCC, the journey to from the Kyoto Protocol to the Paris Agreement and Article 6.
