Background

At COP 28, the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee (TEC), together with Enterprise Neurosystem, launched the AI Innovation Grand Challenge at a high-level event on AI for climate action as a climate innovation competition to drive new AI applications for climate mitigation and adaptation action in developing countries, in particular in LDCs and SIDS.

The call for submissions to the Grand Challenge closed on 12 August 2024, resulting in 114 entries from 62 countries, including 19 LDCs and SIDS, with thematic areas such as agriculture, buildings and infrastructure, early warning systems, energy, forestry and ecosystems, industry, transportation, and water. The Grand Challenge winner was selected through multiple rounds, including written submissions, video recordings, and a live presentation.
