The Global Stocktake Climate Datathon

independent technical initiative assessing data relevant for the global stocktake

As data is fundamental to a successful technical dialogue of the first global stocktake (GST1), there will be a technical dialogue Climate Datathon ahead of COP27 where winners present their work at Science Day at COP27. The Datathon is expected to facilitate the understanding of data related to the technical dialogue of GST1 and could contribute to the assessment of collective progress. The datathon will include the preparation of prompts and datasets based on the different themes of GST1. The expected analytical work to be undertaken could enable a visualization potential opportunities and identify creative ways for overcoming challenges.

This datathon is planned to be an informal, independent initiative with a possibility to support the Technical dialogue process. It will not be a formal part of the official TD process, though participants may choose to make inputs to the GST, which is open to anyone.

Timeline:

  • September 21st @ 9:00-9:30 AM ET | Launch Datathon @ NY Climate Week
  • October 15th | Submissions closed
  • October 15th-20th | Submissions reviewed
  • October 21st | Winners identified and announced
  • November 10th @ COP27 | Winners will present their work on Science Day
