Work area 1: Supporting the Paris Agreement

Expected results (outcomes and impacts)
Policymakers in the least developed countries (LDCs) are motivated to take demonstrable steps towards the achievement of the global adaptation goal through the national adaptation plans (NAPs) when they implement the Paris Agreement The Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) provides helpful recommendations to the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement at its first session (CMA 1), working in collaboration with the Adaptation Committee, for the effective implementation of the Paris Agreement in a timely manner
Mandates The LEG should be mandated to provide technical guidance and advice on needs related to adaptation that may arise from the 2015 agreement and the decisions adopted by the Conference of the Parties at its twenty-first session (November–December 2015), as determined by Parties: (decision 19/CP.21, para. 2d) The Adaptation Committee and the LEG to jointly develop modalities to recognize the adaptation efforts of developing country Parties, as referred to in Article 7, paragraph 3, of the Agreement, and make recommendations for consideration and adoption by the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement at its first session (CMA 1): (decision 1/CP.21, para. 41) The Adaptation Committee and the LEG, in collaboration with the Standing Committee on Finance (SCF) and other relevant institutions, to develop methodologies, and make recommendations for consideration and adoption by CMA 1 on: (a) Taking the necessary steps to facilitate the mobilization of support for adaptation in developing countries in the context of the limit to global average temperature increase referred to in Article 2 of the Agreement; and (b) Reviewing the adequacy and effectiveness of adaptation and support referred to in Article 7, paragraph 14(c), of the Agreement: (decision 1/CP.21, para. 45)
