Background
Decisions in Glasgow on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement elaborated the specific focus areas for capacity building across Article 6.2 and 6.4 (2/CMA.3 and 3/CMA.3). Meanwhile the relevance of cooperative approaches in the context of NDC implementation has doubled. The share of Parties that indicated that they plan or will possibly use voluntary cooperation in at least one of its scopes has increased from 46 to 85 per cent in the new or updated NDCs compared with those Parties’ previous NDCs.
Objective
The Regional Dialogues on Article 6 Capacity Building Needs aim at gathering information on the capacity building needs of the countries from the respective regions. The dialogue on Article 6 Capacity Building Needs will focus on debriefing on relevant COP26 outcomes on Article 6 including CDM transition and to understand capacity building needs regarding participation requirements for all aspects of Article 6 and to allow for Parties to meaningfully engage in CDM transition.
Join the consultative regional dialogues to guide and communicate on capacity building needs for Article 6. Discussions at regional dialogue will inform the Article 6 workplan, identify capacity building needs and provide information for decision making, including policy and planning for development of the work programme to implement capacity building. The workshop will:
-
Share capacity building needs to shape the workplan for Article 6
-
Improve awareness of COP26 key decisions on Article 6 and its impact on CDM
-
Understand capacity building needs for full-filling participation requirements in Article 6 and the transition from CDM to Article 6.4
The outcome of the three regional dialogues will be synthetized along with inputs from additional events held during 2022, in the context of identification of capacity building needs related to Article 6. The Dialogues are also an opportunity to enhance awareness on COP26 key outcomes and decisions focusing on Article 6 and CDM transition.
Target Participants
UNFCCC National Focal Points, CDM Designated National Authorities and stakeholders.
