Capacity-building hub

UN Climate Change News, 31 October 2021 –Following the success of previous years, the Capacity-building Hub at COP26 will once again welcome climate change capacity building organisations, experts, practitioners, and enthusiasts to contribute towards enabling greater climate action across the world.

The 3rd Capacity-building Hub is set to open with its Capacity-building Day on the 3rd of November which will be followed by various thematic days including: Finance and Technology Day; Adaptation and Resilience Day; UNFCCC Bodies, Entities and Process Day; and close with the Paris Committee on Capacity Building (PCCB)’s Focus Area Day. 40 different events will be organized by 45 diverse organizations that will populate these five thematic days under the umbrella of the 3rd Capacity-building Hub.

The Capacity-building Hub is a direct response to the Paris Committee on Capacity Building’s (PCCB) mission to enhance coherence and coordination of capacity building under the Convention and the Paris Agreement, address current and emerging gaps and needs, and facilitate greater awareness of the scope and impact of capacity building efforts. The PCCB was created in 2015 with the unique mandate to help developing countries identify their capacity building needs and gaps and to promote the active engagement with a wide range of stakeholders to increase the impact of capacity-building itself.

There will also be a UK Presidency hosted COP26 Catalyst Day at the Capacity Building Hub on Tuesday 9th November. The COP26 Catalyst is a UK Presidency convened framework to bring together key stakeholders to discuss capacity building challenges and to catalyse action through four Action Groups on capacity building for Adaptation Action, Access to Finance, Carbon Markets Participation, and Transparency and Reporting. The COP26 Catalyst for Climate Action conducted wider consultation at the UN Regional Climate Weeks, in collaboration with the PCCB and the UNFCCC Secretariat’s Capacity Building team. On the 9th November, Partners from each of the four action groups will lead events under the Catalyst themes, ahead of a discussion and presentation of the COP26 Catalyst Partners’ emerging recommendations. Do join us at the UK Pavillion on 11th November, for a presentation of the COP26 Catalyst high-level Partnership Statement.

While the 1st Capacity-building Hub at COP24 laid the foundation for an inclusive and engaging platform for the flourishing community of capacity-building actors, the 2nd Capacity-building Hub at COP25 further broadened the range of actors involved. The PCCB is now ready to welcome everyone to the 3rd Capacity-building Hub at COP26 in Glasgow.

Building on the successful experience of previous years, the 3rd Capacity-building Hub will continue to be a space for experiences and ideas to enable more ambitious climate action as the world gathers speed towards a climate for a sustainable world.

All events at the 3rd Capacity-building Hub will be livestreamed on PCCB’s YouTube channel and for further updates, please click here
