Background

Led by the Green Africa Youth Organization, this event speaks on how the urgency of addressing climate change has become increasingly evident worldwide. Africa, as a continent experiencing the severe impacts of climate change, recognizes the need for collective action. Engaging youth as key agents of change is vital for driving sustainable solutions in tackling climate-related challenges. To foster their active involvement, it is crucial to highlight funding opportunities available for youth-led climate projects in Africa.

 

Objectives 

  • Showcase Successful Community-led Climate Initiatives through youth-led projects
  • Build youth capacity for climate advocacy
  • Introduce participants to a publicly accessible database and resource pack as a tool for informed climate advocacy and communication
  • Highlight the role of policy advocacy at the international level
  • Information sharing on accessing Funds for Climate Initiatives
  • Shed light on funding mechanisms and resources dedicated to supporting youth-led climate projects in Africa
  • To discuss ways to enhance funding opportunities for youth-led climate projects in Africa
  • To facilitate networking and collaboration among key stakeholders.

The format of this event will be a panel discussion.

15 minutes Throwing more light on youth-led climate initiatives GAYO, CAC, Kenyan rep from the UNDP Funds Representatives briefly highlight successes particularly in attracting funding, lessons learned and the impact of their initiatives.
50 minutes Dialogue between funders and project coordinators.  Panelists Funders and Project coordinators share their initiatives and discuss the dynamics in creating bankable projects. Initiative (ASFI), African Climate Innovation Challenge (ACIC).
20 minutes Q&A Moderator Session with short answers to address participant queries.
5 minutes Closing remarks and outcomes   Summary of key takeaways and outcomes from the panel
discussion. Encouraging continued collaboration and networking among participants.
