CMA 7 agreed on a list of mandated activities to be implemented on an annual basis from 2026 to 2028 with an aim to identify and respond to challenges in reporting by developing country Parties, including challenges in developing and maintaining their national systems; identify possible solutions to those challenges, including consideration of challenges in and possible ways of implementing those solutions; and reflect on how the implementation of those solutions addresses the challenges identifided by Parties. Pertaining to SB 64, the secretariat is requested to among other things, in collaboration with the Consultative Group of Experts and other constituted bodies and relevant partners, as appropriate, organise a workshop in world café format.

Opening

Welcome remarks by the Director of the Transparency Division of the secretariat

10:30-11:45

Session 1: Reflections on the survey report, the submissions from Parties and the synthesis report

Scene-setting presentation (15min): a summary of key findings from the survey report, submissions from Parties and the synthesis report.

Plenary discussion (60min)

Participants will reflect on the submissions from Parties, the survey report and the synthesis report, and will be invited to share additional insights and reflections based on their experience, lessons learned and challenges.

11:45-13:00

Session 2: Roundtable discussions on challenges, solutions and enablers

Roundtable Group Work (35mins): Participants will discuss in groups, the challenges developing country Parties face in implementing the ETF, as well as the solutions and enablers to address these challenges, reflecting on the survey report, submissions from Parties and the synthesis report keeping in mind the objectives set out in decision 15/CMA.7, para.6. Each group will identify a facilitator and a rapporteur.

  • Practical solutions to identified challenges
  • Capacity-building approaches
  • Improving access to financial support for reporting
  • Strengthening national systems
  • Enhancing sustainability of reporting

Key question:

  • What are the remaining challenges, which solutions are working and what is needed to scale them up?

Plenary discussion (40mins)

Report back by the rapporteurs of each group, including any additional reflections by the participants.
