This event will seek to showcase the pathways from knowledge to action on addressing, averting and minimizing loss and damage, and opportunities for the Warsaw International Mechanism (WIM) Executive Committee and its thematic expert groups, to develop knowledge products that drive real-world impacts and action in the evolving loss and damage landscape.

The event will offer an opportunity to enhance understanding of how knowledge products are being used directly to drive tangible and impactful work at the national, regional, and international levels, through case studies of recent WIM ExCom products being utilised. The event will also be an opportunity to share information on new plans of action for the expert group on non-economic losses, the task force on displacement, and the technical expert group on comprehensive risk management, and to highlight the importance of new and existing experts to the work of the WIM ExCom in developing impactful and action-oriented knowledge products.

2. Uptake of the technical guides and other knowledge products

The panel will showcase the recent knowledge products and technical guides published under the WIM ExCom, and how they enhance and drive implementation on the ground.

On human mobility and displacement: 

  • Presentation of the new technical guide on accessing finance for averting, minimizing and addressing displacement, developed with the support of PDD and IOM, as an example of a knowledge product designed to enhance and drive implementation
    • Mr. Atle Solberg, Task Force on Displacement. 
  • Presentation of the technical guide on integrating human mobility and climate change linkages into relevant national climate change processes, developed with the support of IOM, UNHCR and ILO.
    • Mr. Soumyadeep Banerjee, Task Force on Displacement. 
  • Illustration of how the technical guide on integrating human mobility and climate change linkages into relevant national climate change processes has been piloted and used in the Republic of Moldova.
    • Ms. Aliona Cara-Rusnac, Secretary of State, Ministry of Environment, Republic of Moldova.

On comprehensive risk management: 

  • Presentation of the Compendium on comprehensive risk management approaches. Vol 2, developed with the support of MCII.
    • Mr. Sönke Kreft, Technical Expert Group on Comprehensive Risk Management. 
  • Illustration of Fiji’s national planned relocation arrangements, showcased as one of the case studies of the compendium.
    • Mr. Daniel Lund, Adviser to Fiji’s Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change.

3. New Plans of Action and upcoming knowledge products

The panel will present the newly endorsed Plans of Action for thematic work and knowledge products on the horizon in the next two years to raise awareness amongst expert stakeholders to drive utilization and dissemination of future knowledge products.
