Introduction

The Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) updated the technical guidelines for the national adaptation plan (NAP) process to reflect the provisions of decision 2/CMA.5 on the global goal on adaptation (GGA) as well as the best available science, including the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as mandated in paragraph 47 of decision CMA 5. Launched at the NAP Expo 2025, the updated NAP technical guidelines address, among other issues: advancing the GGA targets through NAPs; applying the best available science, including IPCC AR6; integrating vulnerability, risk, and resilience; articulating a vision of a well-adapting country with the future as a baseline; identifying interconnected systems to promote integrated approaches; transitioning to scaled-up financing and implementation; outlining modules and steps of the NAP process; defining best-practice contents of the NAP; and managing information flows across the adaptation cycle.

Objective

The LEG is conducting a series of webinars to raise awareness and promote the use of the updated NAP technical guidelines.
