Background

Rights-based finance is urgently needed because those who contribute the most to protecting biodiversity and combating climate change often receive the least support and face the greatest risks. This event comprises of organizations committed to justice and equity in the implementation of biodiversity and climate action.

Objectives

1. Strengthen understanding of the current social-ecological crisis, including global challenges in climate change, biodiversity loss and human rights violations, and examine where current climate and biodiversity finance falls short.

2. Introduce the core principles of rights-based finance, proposing discussions that contrast incremental measures with transformative change approaches.

3. Raise awareness about how rights-based finance for climate and biodiversity can go beyond "do no harm" and address urgent socio-ecological challenges while advancing the implementation of countries' National Determined Contributions (NDCs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs).
