Background:

At COP 29, this event will be hosted by the UN Climate Change Regional Collaboration Centres (RCCs)  

The collaborative activities undertaken by the UN Climate Change secretariat through its RCCs with other United Nations entities, Development Coordination Offices and Resident Coordinators, other international organizations and other key stakeholders, including from within the private sector, seek to engage all actors necessary to enhance countries’ efforts to adapt to the adverse effects of climate change and reduce greenhouse gases emissions.  

The event will overview on RCC achievement in the last two years and discuss how regional collaboration is a key element to the effective implementation of the Paris Agreement and allows a critical understanding of regional priorities and challenges, facilitates the mobilization of resources, encourages the sharing of best practices, and drives climate innovation.  

The RCCs facilitate a collaboration that is vital for overcoming the limited effects of isolated action – as the panelists will discussed. By working together, engaged regional entities can amplify their efforts, creating a larger impact and achieving faster progress towards reducing emissions and adapting to climate change. 

Objectives:

• Acknowledge the collaboration of UN Climate Change and its RCCs with the larger United Nations system, international and regional organization to support countries boosting climate action, raising ambition, and increasing resilience, in focused area of work, including NDCs, Article 6 and Adaptation. 

• Identify further opportunities of coordination and collaboration at regional level to support the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
