Background
This training provides participants with a practical understanding of how climate data is communicated under the UNFCCC’s Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) and made available to the public. With a special focus on the Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs), as well as the information and key messages of the BTR Synthesis Report, the session will explore how countries present progress on climate action and support, and how this information can be used by different stakeholders in their efforts to address climate change.
In addition, the training will present other UNFCCC transparency data sources, including the GHG Data Interface and the Climate Data Hub, highlighting how these platforms improve accessibility, comparability, and usability of climate-related information.
Objectives
The training aims to equip NPS and non-expert audiences with the tools and understanding they need to use the data coming from the BTR synthesis report and other UNFCCC Transparency data sources.
Through interactive discussions and real-world examples, participants will:
- Gain clarity on the key aspects of the ETF.
- Understand the purpose and scope of BTRs and the BTR Synthesis Report.
- Explore complementary UNFCCC data sources such as the GHG Data Interface and Climate Data Hub.
- Learn how climate data can inform policy, research, and public engagement.
- Identify opportunities to enhance data usability for diverse stakeholders.
Target audience
The training is designed for non-Party stakeholders seeking to improve their capacity to interpret, communicate, and leverage climate-related information within the UNFCCC transparency framework.
