Background

Given the need to set expectations and prepare Parties for the submission and review of first Biennial Transparency Reports (which could occur as early as 2023) as well as the need to substantially increase the number of available technical review experts, it is timely to update interested individuals and Parties on these issues.

The timing of COP 27 (the last COP before Parties will likely need to begin work in earnest on their first BTR) presents an opportunity to engage the greater transparency community at a point when they will be eager to learn more about the upcoming new processes.

Event description

As part of #Together4Transparency at COP27, the main objectives of this event are:

• Ensure a strong focus on the ETF and the central role of transparency in ensuring the successful implementation of the Paris Agreement;
• Providing practical and relevant opportunities to assist participants in the preparation for the ETF;
• Reinforcing the initiative to build Universal Participation in the ETF; and,
• Raising interest and participation in transparency-related activities by ensuring relevant, engaging, and interactive content/format.
• Increase the pipeline of potential new review experts.

The event will follow a format of moderated panel discussion addressing a set of guiding questions. At the end, the audience will also have an opportunity to interact with the panelists.
