1. Mandate
The Nairobi Work Programme (NWP) is mandated to advance knowledge-based, inclusive, and action-oriented work on climate adaptation, including by engaging experts representing diverse knowledge holders and by identifying practical options to support implementation of adaptation (see FCCC/SBSTA/2025/4 and FCCC/SBSTA/2022/6).
The NWP is further mandated to organize global and regional in-person events, in combination with virtual engagement, ensuring regional balance and meaningful participation of knowledge users and NWP partners (see FCCC/SBSTA/2021/3 and FCCC/SBSTA/2023/4).
2. Context
In 2025, the NWP convened a diverse group of knowledge holders to co-create and synthesize practical knowledge to inform adaptation financing at different levels for addressing current and future climate change impacts. The co-creation process took place over three virtual meetings, followed by an event at the second Climate Week in Addis Ababa in September 2025. The inclusive process generated practical knowledge on approaches to enhancing access to and mobilization of finance for adaptation (see informal summary report).
The NWP convened a fourth virtual meeting with the group in 2026 to discuss the pathways for implementing these practical options. The event at Climate Week 3 in Yeosu represents the next step in that process, moving from concept development to refinement, prioritization of practical options, and country-driven applications by partners.
3. Objective
The key objective of the event is to convene diverse knowledge holders and adaptation finance actors to refine and prioritize identified practical options, and to explore pathways that provide countries with customisable options to apply them.
4. Expected outcomes
-
Practical options for financing adaptation are refined, contextualized, and made available to Parties and relevant actors.
-
Actions are facilitated through identified partnerships with relevant actors to support uptake of knowledge on adaptation finance in countries and regions.
5. Participants
Representatives from governments, financial institutions, private sector, Indigenous Peoples, local communities, academic and scientific institutions, and underrepresented groups and voices.
