Global Green Growth Institute

Background

The Global Green Growth Institute has conducted a global review of NAPs and identified gaps and good practices in several areas including finance.

The session aims to combine two main steps to deliver the desired outputs and outcomes: 1) Sharing knowledge based on the comprehensive NAP global review on finance aspects and good practices conducted by the GGGI and the University of Twente and relevant experiences and lessons learned from GIZ and the LDC group, by identifying NAPs finance gaps and capacity needs, 2) Participants and experts in a workshop setting will identify the capacity gaps in key areas identified in the NAP review, and will suggest strategies for plugging these capacity gaps. The latter discussion will aim to feed into ongoing financing structure projects that GGGI is developing in support of its member countries.

Objectives

  • To discuss the gaps and needs of countries in incorporating financial aspects and financial strategies into their NAPs,
  • to increase stakeholder awareness and initiate dialogues on the capacity building needs and activities to bridge these gaps on adaptation finance, by looking at the main finance features of NAPs,
  • To highlight good practices and success stories of NAPs that have effectively addressed financing, including emerging experiences in developing financing strategies, adaptation project pipelines, and innovative financial models for aligning finance with adaptation priorities,
  • Co-develop potential new structures or mechanisms to boost adaptation financing capacity
