Background

This side event served as a platform for MENA countries to exchange experiences, discuss common challenges, and explore opportunities for collaboration to enhance ambition and improve implementation of future NDCs.

It also offered a forum for peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing, with a special focus on institutional arrangements, stakeholder engagement, and multi-sectoral coordination.

The event featured the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), who presented the Nationally Determined Contribution Accelerator (NDCA) initiative, focusing on how UAE's inclusive institutional frameworks and stakeholder engagement processes can elevate ambition for the upcoming NDC cycle.

Objectives

This side event aimed to:

• Facilitate the sharing of experiences, challenges, and lessons learned from MENA countries in preparing and implementing NDCs.

• Promote peer-to-peer learning and regional collaboration to facilitate efforts towards enhancing future NDCs.

• Explore the linkages between Article 6 mechanisms and the achievement of NDC targets.

• Showcase good practices, tools, and institutional frameworks, including through the UAE’s NDCA initiative, to inspire ambitious and actionable NDCs across the region.
