Context

As COP30 marks the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, it represents a defining moment to renew global commitment toward inclusive and equitable climate action. Under the leadership of the Brazilian Presidency, COP30 embodied the spirit of the Mutirão, a collective effort to accelerate implementation through participation and collaboration.

Building on the institutionalization of the PYCC role at COP28 (Decision 16/CP.28) and the valuable experiences from the COP29 Presidency, this conversation sought to deepen dialogue between the COP30 PYCC and youth in Party delegations. It aimed to reflect on progress made since the establishment of the PYCC mandate as well as the lessons from the first two years of its institutionalization, identify emerging priorities for youth during COP30, and discuss ways to strengthen collaboration between the PYCC and Youth in Party delegations during and beyond COP30.

This conversation followed previous exchanges held at SB60, COP29 and SB62, with both youth in Constituencies and in Party Delegations, ensuring continuity and coordination between Presidencies and across negotiation cycles.

Objectives

This session provided an opportunity for youth in Party delegations to engage directly with the COP30 PYCC. The discussion aimed to:

  • Hear from youth in different delegations, based on the current state of negotiations, on their parties' expectations for the priority items within the COP30 outcomes.

  • Take stock of the activities implemented as part of the COP30 PYCC work plan and their impact on enhancing the meaningful, inclusive engagement of youth in Party delegations, empowering young people to usefully contribute to decision making on climate, elevating and amplifying children and youth voices and catalyzing youth led climate action.

  • Share ideas on how the role of the Presidency Youth Climate Champion can be strengthened to help Parties advance the implementation of youth related mandates and enhance meaningful participation in the process.
