COP 28 called upon all Parties to have progressed in implementing their NAPs by 2030. However, progress on implementing NAPs remains slow due to a lack of coordinated and sustained support once plans are formulated.  

COP 29 invited United Nations organizations, specialized agencies and other relevant organizations, as well as bilateral and multilateral agencies, to support the implementation of NAPs in the LDCs, drawing on the work of, and where appropriate in consultation with, the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG), and, where possible, to consider establishing programmes for supporting the implementation of national adaptation plans, within their mandates, as appropriate, which could facilitate the provision of relevant financial and technical support to the least developed countries and the achievement of the goals referred to in paragraph 59 of decision 1/CMA.5. 

Objective

The event will bring together experts from Parties and relevant organizations to identify priority support needs to inform the design of the support programmes for the implementation of NAPs as mandated in paragraph 8 of decision 15/CP.29. 

Expected outcomes

Identification of priority support needs of the LDCs and other developing countries to inform the design of targeted programmes for the implementation of NAPs.
