Background 

This session aimed to mature the discussion on implementation of AI projects that further climate goals, in a way that is scientifically grounded, responsible, equitable, and globally applicable. This session combined targeted educational talks on technology and funding, with a collaborative group brainstorm and roundtable discussion to share learnings and barriers in a collaborative manner. The session closed with collaborative brainstorming of concrete actions and next steps, building on these mutual learnings.

Objectives

• Provide participants with a concrete understanding of AI use cases for climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the varied technological readiness among these use cases

• Provide participants with a concrete understanding of the socio-technical considerations and capacity needs associated with AI for climate across different geographical regions and implementation contexts

• Link participant use cases to innovation financing strategies and concrete next steps for capacity-building

• Build connections between funders, innovators, and problem owners in AI for climate
