Background

Climate mitigation policies seek to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the implementation of coordinated actions across social, economic, and environmental dimensions. Countries that implement this type of policies and strategies experience a more successful economic diversification and transformation. These policies are often accompanied by changes in economic activities, sector expansion, technological investment and skills and employment priorities.

In this transition, segments of the workforce may face adverse impacts, particularly as emerging technologies reshape labor dynamics, create new sectors, and transform existing ones. Demanding changes in practices, business strategies, and environmental-related solutions. These challenges are especially pronounced for young people, who must navigate rapidly evolving skill requirements driven by the green transition and the rise of artificial intelligence, while being part of an educational system that is yet to adapt to these changes itself.

Objectives

This event will explore how skills development, education and training systems for youth can support economic diversification and transformation under climate mitigation policies, highlighting green skills, decent work, and the opportunities and workforce impacts associated with artificial intelligence.
