Background:
“Becoming Climate Action Champions” responds to the launch of the Global Climate Action Agenda (GCAA) 2026–2030, the five-year vision developed under the Marrakech Partnership to accelerate voluntary climate action following the outcomes of the first Global Stocktake. As the GCAA enters its next phase, there is an opportunity to equip young people with the knowledge and tools to understand this framework and position themselves as active contributors, whether through their own initiatives, organizations, or networks.
The session will introduce participants to the GCAA's architecture and implementation pathways, creating space for peer exchange across its six thematic axes covering mitigation, adaptation, and means of implementation:
- Transitioning energy, industry, and transport
- Stewarding forests, oceans, and biodiversity
- Transforming agriculture and food systems
- Building resilience for cities, infrastructure, and water
- Fostering human and social development
- Unleashing enablers and accelerators, including finance, technology, and capacity-building
Based upon this multilateral framework, participants will leave with a clearer sense of how their local or thematic work fits into the global climate action landscape and how to make that connection visible, impactful, and actionable.
Objectives:
- Introduce participants to the Global Climate Action Agenda (GCAA) 2026–2030 and its six thematic axes as a framework for voluntary climate action.
- Strengthen participants' ability to situate their local, sectoral, or advocacy-based work within broader multilateral structures and implementation pathways.
- Facilitate peer learning among young climate actors working across diverse regional and thematic contexts.
- Build capacity to identify entry points for engagement within the GCAA ecosystem, such as activation groups, communities of action, and tracking tools like the NAZCA portal.
- Connect young leaders with the Presidency Youth Climate Champion (PYCC) to create a shared sense of agency and increase youth engagement in global climate action.
