The UNFCCC secretariat developed and launched the Needs-based Climate Finance Projects, following the mandate from the COP contained in decision 6/CP.23. As part of the Project, the secretariat organizes regional technical workshops for finance experts from developing countries to assist them better integrate climate strategies into national policies, with an ultimate goal of scaling up the mobilization and delivery of climate finance that will address developing countries’ needs and priorities. The workshop in the Asia and the Pacific will invite finance experts (e.g. from ministries of finance, central banks and finance regulatory authorities) from the region to: (1) Enhance their understanding on climate change in the region, science and economics related thereto and the climate finance flows at the international and regional level; (2) Identify opportunities to assess and address the climate financing needs at the national and regional levels; (3) Identify possible policy options, regulations and tools that the experts can utilize to facilitate the mobilization of and access to climate finance, to address the need identified; (4) Exchange information on ways to pursue cooperation through partnerships and networks and through international support (e.g. NBF project, WB CAPE, Coalition of Finance Ministers, etc.) The event and the exact date are still subject for confirmation and to be determined.
