Background

COP29 in Baku is a key opportunity to accelerate inclusive climate adaptation and resilience action globally and locally. The session will highlight the path to increase capacities, funding,
and direct resources to SMEs and frontline communities facing risks of and impacts from extreme and slow-onset events , and forced displacement.

Suggested Outcomes

• Enhanced Private Sector Investment in Climate Adaptation and Resilience, especially in developing countries: Securing commitments from businesses to invest in climate adaptation projects and actions, focusing on vulnerable and most at risk communities and natural ecosystems, contributing to the goal of making 4 billion people resilient by 2030.
• Scaling Nature-Based Solutions: Amplifying collaboration and partnerships to integrate nature-based solutions among the main adaptation and resilience actions across sectors, into national adaptation plans and NDCs and related finance and investment, especially in promoting inclusive, resilient and sustainable land use and biodiversity conservation, directly contributing to the 2030 targets for ecosystem restoration and carbon sequestration.
• Strengthened Global Partnerships for Equity and Inclusion: Reinforcing existing inclusive multi-stakeholder partnerships that prioritise the needs of marginalised and frontline communities in climate action across systems, ensuring their active participation in decision-making and finance processes and the equitable distribution and access to capacities and resources, in line with and in support of the UNFCCC’s Global Goal on Adaptation
