I. Background
At COP 26, Parties adopted the 10-year Glasgow work programme on Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) (Decision 18/CP.26 and Decision 22/CMA.3), which requested the SBI to undertake the development of an action plan at SBI 56 focusing on immediate action through short-term, clear and time-bound activities, guided by the priority areas set out in the Glasgow work programme on ACE (policy coherence, coordinated action, tools and support, and monitoring, evaluation and reporting) with a view to recommending a draft decision on this matter for adoption by COP 27 and CMA 4.
In this regard, Parties requested the SBI to convene an in-session technical workshop for Parties at SBI 56 on how priority areas can guide implementation of the six elements of ACE, through a short-term action plan, guiding, inter alia, the organization of the annual in-session ACE dialogue.
II. Objective
The objective of the workshop is to discuss how priority areas can guide implementation of the six elements of ACE, through a short-term action plan, guiding, inter alia, the organization of the annual in-session ACE dialogue.
The first session of the technical workshop is to provide Parties the opportunity to explore the role of building partnerships between Parties and other stakeholders in accelerating immediate ACE action at all levels. The second session will initiate the thinking around the design of an action plan through short-term, clear and time-bound activities focusing on immediate action on ACE.
III. Participation
The first session of the technical workshop will be open for participation by Parties and observers and livestreamed in the webcast. The second session will be closed for Parties only, if not decided otherwise by Parties by the end of the first session.
The working language of the technical workshop is English.
IV. Expected outcome
The technical workshop will inform the development of an action plan focusing on immediate action through short-term, clear and time-bound activities, guided by the priority areas set out in the Glasgow work programme on ACE.
