3. Reports of the subsidiary bodies
Abstract

The dialogue on mountains and climate change was convened by the Chairs of the subsidiary bodies at their sixty-fourth sessions with the support of the secretariat. Parties and stakeholders came together to share practical experience and identify support needs in relation to advancing climate action in mountain regions, including as reflected in national climate reporting and planning instruments. Participants identified and discussed entry points under relevant UNFCCC workstreams to address mountain-related climate risks, as well as associated solutions and support needs, including opportunities to strengthen coherence and implementation across relevant work under existing mandates. Participants also explored other options for continued engagement on the topic of mountains and climate change under the UNFCCC, such as an annual dialogue, which resulted in differing views on the appropriate form, frequency and level of such engagement, with a key consideration being whether such continued engagement can help to maintain political visibility and continuity of action and lead to strengthening climate resilience in mountain regions without duplicating efforts under existing workstreams.
