Saturday, 13 June 2026 | 13:30-14:45 | Room Bonn, World Conference Centre

Background
Many developing countries use the TNA process and resulting national climate technology action plans to inform the development and implementation of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and low-emission development strategies. There is also evidence that countries use TNA results to inform their Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs).
Benefit from TNAs go beyond the lifetime of activities to conduct the process itself and transcends the sphere of intergovernmental work. TNAs and Technology Action Plans (TAPs) also bring various benefits to the national and local levels. For example, the institutional set-up and stakeholder engagement for TNA can enhance in-country coordination capacities and institutional linkages. Prioritized technologies in TNAs may trigger action by domestic actors within national and sectoral innovation systems and the private sector.
Therefore, TNAs and TAPs can serve as effective instruments to advance the deployment of climate technology solutions in line with national priorities in developing countries by informing climate policy, enabling climate action, mobilizing support and enhancing transparency.
Objectives
This event will shed light on the diversity of approaches, modalities and support avenues used by developing countries to conduct TNAs and devise pathways for implementation of their TAPs. It will also highlight opportunities for developing countries to keep their technology priorities and action plan up to date for implementation.
Format
The event features inspiring lightning talks around the integration of TNAs and TAPs across national climate action efforts, followed by reflections on opportunities for assessing or updating technology priorities and devising associated implementation pathways. Moreover, the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee will launch its practical guide on how developing countries can be supported for conducting and updating their TNAs.
