In the Joint session, panelist will share experiences and lessons learned in regards to with regard to the achievement of climate technology priorities set out in the first set of NDCs and showcase technology related ambitious actions in the updated NDCs.
The panel discussion will be organised as part of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the Climate Technology Centre and Network’s (CTCN) joint meeting and within the context of the joint work to be undertaken in 2021 on technology issues related to NDCs.
2020 was a critical milestone for updating and submitting new NDCs, as Parties agreed to respond to the mandate of decision 1/CP.21 (Paris, 2015) to prepare new/updated NDCs and communicate these to the UNFCCC secretariat by 2020.
The panel discussion will provide a space to share experiences and lessons learned with regard to the achievement of climate technology priorities set out in the first set of NDCs and showcase ambitious actions, in both mitigation and adaptation, on technology in the updated NDCs. Participants will gain insight from the diverse stakeholders involved in the NDC process, including from the implementation and support perspectives. Lessons learned will feed into recommendations for the COP on how to enhance technology actions in the NDC.
The objectives of the panel discussion are to:
a) Understand the challenges and successes in implementing adaptation and mitigation technology priorities set out in selected countries’ NDCs to overcome challenges for technology development and transfer.
b) Reflect on the enhanced ambitions in selected countries’ NDCs and the role of stakeholders such as the TEC and CTCN in support of implementation.
c) Incorporate these perspectives into the work of the TEC and CTCN and the joint publication on this topic
