In this online event, the Technology Executive Committee will launch the compilation of good practices and lessons learned on international collaborative RD&D initiatives of climate technology .
The technology framework, adopted by Parties at COP 24 in Katowice to guide the work of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) while serving the Paris Agreement, recognizes that there is a pressing need to accelerate and strengthen technological innovation so that it can transfer environmentally and socially sound, cost-effective and better-performing climate technologies on a larger scale. It indicates that fostering innovation could be done inter alia through new collaborative approaches to climate technology research, development and demonstration (RD&D).
In this context, the TEC produced a compilation of good practices and lessons learned on international collaborative RD&D to facilitate the effective participation of developing countries in collaborative RD&D initiatives on climate technologies. The compilation analyzes selected initiatives that are being implemented in in Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and North America and promote and support RD&D of various climate technologies, from smart electricity grids and energy storage to water management and drought forecasting. The publication extracts good practices on governance structure, funding model, stakeholder’s engagement, long-term sustainability that can be replicated in other locations and future initiatives.
The launching event will present the main findings of the compilation. Expert panelists will elaborate on the role key stakeholders can play in supporting and promoting international RD&D of climate technologies. Participants may engage the panelists and contribute to the discussion during the Q&A session. The discussion could also highlight possible elements for future work of the TEC on RD&D.
