Young people are at the frontier of climate risk as today’s climate action will directly affect the rest of their lives. Many youths are growing up in parts of the world where the impacts of climate change will hit hardest. With an urgent drive to act to avoid disastrous climate change, an increasing number of youths are leading climate adaptation efforts in their communities and regions. Young climate entrepreneurs have developed many innovative adaptation solutions to bring real and concrete change.
Co-organised by the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and UNFCCC Youth Constituency (YOUNGO), this event aims to explore youth-led innovative approaches to adaptation technologies. Building on the work of the TEC on innovation and adaptation, the objective of this deep dive session is to:
1. Showcase youth led innovations and innovative technologies and to discuss lessons and good practices in scaling up such innovative technologies;
2. Explore the role and importance of youth in driving climate technology innovation and adaptation, and discuss the factors contributing to meaningful participation and leadership of youth across various levels.
The event will bring together experts, civil society and financial institutions to discuss the current status and key aspects of innovations in adaptation technologies.

Business-as-usual application and implementation of adaptation technologies would not be sufficient to respond to the increasing threat of climate change and to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. Innovative approaches to accelerating and scaling up the dissemination of adaptation technologies are needed to help countries further enhance their climate resilience.
Building on past and ongoing work of the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee (TEC) on innovation and climate technologies for adaptation, this deep dive session will discuss innovative approaches to accelerating and scaling up the dissemination of adaptation technologies. Panelists will focus on innovations in key aspects of adaptation technologies (e.g. access to funding, social engagement and private sector participation, business models, role of governments and international institutions, etc.) and how they can be deployed in faster pace.
This deep-dive session is linked to the TEC Technology Day, a series of events organized in 2020 and 2021 for countries and stakeholders to showcase and discuss innovative approaches for climate adaptation technologies in various sectors. The outcomes of the Technology Day and this deep-dive session, will be used by the TEC to produce a policy brief and recommendations to Parties on this topic. The conclusions of this deep-dive will be also part of the overall GSTIC Chairperson Summary that will be submitted to the SDG Technology Facilitation mechanism and the SDG Forum, held yearly in New York.
