A consultation on the technical examination process in 2015 took place on 10 February 2015 during the meeting of the ADP (ADP 2-8).

Programme (as of 9 February 2015)

By decision 1/CP.20 in Lima, the COP decided to continue the technical examination of opportunities with high mitigation potential and requested the secretariat to undertake specific activities in the period 2015-2020 to implement this decision. To this end, a dedicated meeting was called to reflect on the results of the technical examination process achieved in 2014, and to gather concrete ideas and suggestions for the process in 2015.  The meeting participants discussed and shared their views on the ways to implement the Lima Call for Climate Action with regard to the technical examination process in 2015 in light of the global political momentum for action and the need for enhanced climate action in the run up to Paris. Participants were invited to express their views on how the technical examination process could contribute to enhancing mitigation ambition and implementation of high-impact climate action in developed and developing countries, how this process could be strengthened in 2015, and what should be done to ensure dissemination of information and engagement of non-State actors.

In accordance with the same decision, the UNFCCC institutions and other international organisations were invited to update participants on actions taken in relation to the technical examination and inform about their relevant planned activities in 2015. Following the interventions by these institutions and organisations, participants discussed the opportunities and ways for them to contribute more effectively to the technical examination process in 2015 and beyond, including opportunities to further enhance collaboration and synergies, and proposals for supporting accelerated implementation of policy options and enhanced mitigation action.
