#Together4Transparency at COP30

At COP30, UN Climate Change hosted a series of transparency events marking the full implementation of the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF). With several events under the #Together4Transparency flagship initiative, the global community convened to recognize the significant progress in the transparency journey, including the completion of the first ETF cycle for a pioneer set of countries.

Some highlights from COP 30 include:

-The release of the first BTR Synthesis Report, marking a milestone in the ETF and Paris Agreement implementation.

-The launching of the Climate Data Hub, opening a new era where reliable, official climate data becomes accessible, actionable, and empowering to everyone.

-The publishing of the NAZCA Portal Redevelopment and Engagement Roadmap, outlining what 2026 and beyond will look like for non-party stakeholders tracking and recognition efforts.

-The convening of a highly successful Ministerial Dialogue on Transparency on "celebrating the first ETF cycle" by the COP29 and COP30 Presidencies, where Ministers and heads of delegation reaffirmed the indispensable role of transparency in driving global climate ambition.

We continued to build strong partnerships to drive transparency and climate progress.

  • #Together4Transparency collaborated with the COP30 Presidency to showcase our work in the metaverse through their pioneering digital platform, Maloca, co-developed with UNDP. This space provided a global gateway to COP30 and we used the platform to showcase event recordings and present a Transparency Gallery featuring video explainers, case studies, reports, and our meme collection.

  • We engaged for the first time with COP30 Youth Champion Marcele Oliveira, appointed by President Lula to represent youth perspectives in the process.

  • Recognizing the power of multi-stakeholder partnerships, a special event highlighted Cooperative Climate Initiatives (CCIs) and their role in advancing the Paris Agreement. Together with the Climate Champions Team, Forest and Farm Facility, LeadIT, AIM for Scale, ERI, World Benchmark Alliance, Fashion Charter for Climate Action, and WWF Japan, the event showcased alliances and collaborations driving mitigation and adaptation, while also presenting the NAZCA portal’s CCI module.

  • #Together4Transparency also partnered with CDP on the report “Data as the Catalyst: Powering System-wide National Transition Planning Across Climate and Nature Goals” launched at COP30. As this collaboration deepens, the Transparency Division delivered remarks at their launch event, welcomed CDP at our NAZCA event, and held bilateral discussions to explore future opportunities for continued cooperation.

  • #Together4Transparency collaborated with Climate Tracker and Climate Policy Radar to deliver a joint event on “Making Climate Data Accessible”.This session explained the UNFCCC Transparency Framework and the BTR Synthesis Report, laying the groundwork for future engagement with both organizations.

  • #Together4Transparency tried a new approach this COP by hosting its first-ever event in the Entertainment + Culture Pavilion. The event, “Let the Data be Heard”, brought the Climate Data Hub and the Transparency work to content creators and storytellers, equipping them to turn BTR data into compelling stories. A meme collection was also created from the event.

  • An invitation to join the Italy Pavilion gave #T4T the opportunity to brief both new and seasoned transparency experts on the latest updates to the ETF. The session included presentations from a support provider, updates on BTR submissions, NDC tracking indicators, and illustrative country examples.
