Event aims -

  • Highlight the main GST related outputs from the UNFCCC RCWs, as well as key regional NPS inputs to the GST
  • Share regional perspectives and opportunities of engaging in the implementation phase of the outcomes of the first GST, including by NPS.

Regional climate weeks outcomes

  • Presentation of the main outcomes of the RCWs 2023 relevant to the GST from representatives of the host countries (Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Panama and Malaysia).
  • Hand-over of key regional messages from RCWs on the first GST.

Panel discussion on the RCW contribution to the GST and engagement of NPS at the regional level

  • Panel to include representatives of different NPS constituencies, including civil society, local governments, indigenous peoples, youth, and the private sector
  • The panel discussion will focus on the three main themes of the global stocktake (adaptation, including loss and damage; mitigation, including response measures; and means of implementation and support) based on the following guiding questions:
    • Based on the regional reflections on GST, what are the most immediate opportunities for accelerating climate action in your region to be harnessed; what concrete actions will you advance in the short term in your region?
    •  Taking stock of the outcomes from RCWs and input from NPS, how can cooperation at regional levels help accelerate implementation of the Paris Agreement and vice versa? What is the role of national and local governments, and other NPS?
    •  What are lessons learned from the involvement of NPS and regional perspectives from the first GST, to be considered for future GSTs? How can the next round of GST be made more concretely useful for catalyzing climate action at the regional levels and for NPS?
