The UNFCCC Standing Committee on Finance (SCF) is holding two webinars for contributors and experts for an informal exchange on the development of two reports the committee is producing, as mandated by governments. The webinars will take place on 7 April 2020, from 13:00-16:00 CEST and can be followed by the public on YouTube.

Climate finance refers to local, national or transnational financing—drawn from public, private and alternative sources of financing—that seeks to support actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions and build resilience to climate change. The Convention, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement call for financial assistance from governments with more financial resources to those that are less endowed and more vulnerable.

You can join our webinar from 13:00-14:30 CEST on the 2020 Report on the Determination of the needs of developing country Parties related to implementing the Convention and the Paris Agreement to exchange the latest developments in methodological issues and information relating to the determination of the needs of developing country Parties from national, regional and global reports and data availability and gaps. 

The first of its kind, the report will include available information and data on needs by type, theme and sector, across Africa, Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.

For the preparation of the report, the SCF is looking for evidence on:

• Information and data on the needs of developing country Parties;  

• Processes and approaches utilized for the determination of needs of developing country Parties;  

• Underlying assumptions and methodologies; and  

• Challenges, gaps and opportunities. 

Join the webinar from 14:30 – 16:00 CEST on the 2020 Biennial Assessment and Overview of Climate Finance Flows (BA), to exchange on the latest developments on methodological issues and data availability and gaps relating to climate finance flows, and mapping information relevant to Article 2, paragraph 1(c) of the Paris Agreement.

The report will inform the 4th High-level Ministerial Dialogue on Climate Finance to be held at the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 and later the Global Stocktakes, designed to assess the adequacy of climate action by the international community.

The SCF has initiated the preparation of the 2020 BA, and is looking for evidence on: 

• Methodological issues relating to measuring, reporting, and verifying climate finance flows;  

• Data on climate-related finance flows;

• Assessment of the effectiveness of climate finance flows, including drivers, impact results, meeting needs, and access; and   

• Information relevant to Article 2, paragraph 1(c) of the Paris Agreement.
