The Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) is conducting regional training workshops on national adaptation plans (NAPs) as part of its work programme for 2019–2020. The training workshops are designed to support countries to advance in the formulation and implementation of NAPs. The workshop involved the following countries that were still in the early stages of the process to formulate and implement NAPs: Afghanistan, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Gambia, Haiti, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Timor-Leste and Yemen.

The workshop engaged three representatives from each of the countries, nominated by the national focal point follows: one person with significant role in the NAP work at the national level (such as the national focal point or NAP coordinator); one representative from the Green Climate Fund National Designated Authority (NDA) office; and one expert with significant background on the country’s development issues. The LEG also recommended countries to consider nominating women representatives.

The workshop was organized as part of the Open NAP initiatives, designed to provide direct support to NAP teams by mobilizing a broad set of experts and actors, to offer a platform for countries to advance the formulation of their NAPs, building on the widest experience and expertise in adaptation that exists regionally and globally.
