Activities related to the functions of the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform

The Conference of the Parties, by decision 2/CP.24 paragraph 23, requested the secretariat to develop, under the incremental approach for the operationalization of the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform, activities related to the implementation of all three functions of the Platform, at each session of the SBSTA until the workplan is adopted.

This page provides details on the activities that will take place at the fiftieth session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technical Advice (SBSTA) in June 2019.

Informal open dialogue between representatives of constituted bodies on the three functions of the LCIPP

Concept	The Conference of the Parties (COP), through decision 2/CP.24 paragraph 23, requested the secretariat to develop activities related to the implementation of all three functions of the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform (LCIPP) at each session of the SBSTA until the workplan is adopted. The COP also encouraged (decision 2/CP.24, paragraph 20) the FWG to collaborate with other bodies under and outside the Convention, as appropriate, aiming at enhancing the coherence of the actions of the LCIPP under the Convention. This is an informal dialogue between representatives of constituted bodies on the implementation of the three functions of the LCIPP.

Partnership-building dialogue on LCIPP-relevant work outside of the Convention

Concept	An informal and open dialogue to share recent work and relevant mandates linked to the LCIPP; relevant UN entities, civil society organizations and other stakeholders will share potential collaborative opportunities to enhance the engagement of local communities and indigenous peoples in climate change policies and actions that affect their lives.

Informal dialogue on the development of the dedicated LCIPP web portal

Concept	It will be an informal and open space for sharing ideas on the web portal. The discussions will complement ideas that were put forward during the four webinar sessions held in April 2019. The engagement of diverse stakeholders is integral to the operation of the LCIPP. It will also help facilitate and enhance the development of the web portal, and make the work of the LCIPP widely accessible.
