UN Climate Change News, 13 May 2021 – A closing press conference will be held on the final day of the virtual thematic sessions of this year’s Latin America and Caribbean Climate Week (LACCW2021).

The meeting is designed to boost the region’s response to climate change and build regional momentum for the crucial UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in November in Glasgow. It is currently being attended by around 5000 registered participants.

The speakers at the closing press event on Friday, 14 May at 11:00 a.m. ET are:

  • Milagros de Camps, Deputy Minister for Cooperation, Development and Climate Change of the Dominican Republic
  • Dr. Max Puig, Executive Vice President of the National Council on Climate Change of the Dominican Republic
  • Ovais Sarmad, Deputy Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change

The speakers will sum up the key outcomes of the meeting and chart the next steps on the path to COP26, with less than 6 months to go before the UN Climate Conference begins.

News media representatives are invited to attend the meeting by registering with the LACCW2021 virtual platform and accessing the relevant meeting room. Questions can be put via the chat function of the virtual meeting room, or by sending an email to press@unfccc.int.

In addition, the briefing will be streamed live on UN Climate Change YouTube, with the link posted on the @UNFCCC Twitter account shortly before the briefing starts. Media can also post questions on Twitter using the hashtag #FCCCPress.
