Objective

This event will give the opportunity to the Standing Committee on Finance both to provide an overview of its workplan for 2019, including an update on the progress made in each area of work, and to further engage with Parties and relevant stakeholders on relevant issues that are under the consideration of the Standing Committee on Finance.

Focus

The event will provide a general overview of the progress made in each area of the work of the Standing Committee on Finance in 2019, including, inter alia, preparations for the 2019 Forum (which will focus on the theme of climate finance and sustainable cities); work on draft guidance to the operating entities of the Financial Mechanism; preparations for the 2020 biennial assessment and overview of climate finance flows (BA); preparations for the first report on the determination of the needs of developing countries related to the implementation of the Convention and the Paris Agreement and the SCF pilot project in enhancing stakeholder engagement.

The event provides an excellent opportunity not only for Parties and other stakeholders to gather information on the on-going work of the Committee, and also for participants to exchange views on each current area of its work in order also to enrich the work of the Standing Committee on Finance.

Format

The event will feature opening remarks by the Co-Chairs of the Standing Committee on Finance and brief updates by the co-facilitators of areas work and activities referred to above, followed by an interaction with participants and Q&As. Each update will be preceded by a word-cloud or real-time survey on the activity, to make the event more interactive. Short video interview clips of previous SCF members may also be played
