Background:

UN4NAPs is a UN-wide rapid technical backstopping initiative for National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), launched in August 2021 by the UNFCCC secretariat, in response to mandates for engaging international organizations in support of climate change adaptation.

It offers a platform for countries, initially for Least Development Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), to communicate their needs for technical assistance on an ongoing basis.

The partnership enables the UN-wide system of organizations and other intergovernmental organizations to respond to technical requests from any country in the process of formulating or implementing its NAP.

Objectives of the webinars:

This series of webinars aims to:

  • Increase awareness of the UN4NAPs initiative and available technical assistance;
  • Share practical country experiences and lessons learned in accessing support through UN4NAPs;
  • Identify emerging regional priorities, challenges and technical assistance needs related to NAP formulation and implementation;
  • Complement the findings of the UN4NAPs survey;
  • Gather recommendations to strengthen the delivery of support through UN4NAPs.

The discussions will provide valuable insights into the specific challenges for SIDS and LDCs in each region, as well as priorities and technical assistance needs related to NAP formulation and implementation. Following each webinar, the secretariat will prepare a summary of key findings and recommendations, which will be combined with survey responses to help shape future UN4NAPs activities, strengthen engagement with technical assistance providers, and enhance the responsiveness of support to country needs.
