Over the past years, we have witnessed a groundswell of climate action from non-state actors – businesses, investors, cities and regions, and communities worldwide. Since the Paris Agreement, the High Level Champions have worked to bring coherence and alignment to this action agenda, giving confidence across sectors and systems that a concerted effort can accelerate the transition towards a net-zero, nature-positive, and climate-resilient future by 2030.

Recognizing that progress towards adapting to climate consequences and enhancing resilience is crucially needed, the COP27 Presidency in November 2023 launched the Sharm-El-Sheikh Adaptation Agenda (SAA).

The world is moving towards a healthier, more resilient, zero carbon world. Now that 73% of global emissions are covered by a net zero goal, countries must translate national commitments into credible policies, while every sector must undergo an exponential transformation.

The Climate Action Pathways are a vital part of the Marrakech Partnership tools to enhance climate action and ambition towards fully implementing the Paris Agreement. First launched in 2019, they set out sectoral visions for achieving a 1.5° C resilient world in 2050, with overarching transformational milestones, and key impacts that need to be achieved to realize them.

The Climate High-Level Champions are now reaching out to Parties and NPS to initiate a consultative process for further reflection on the development of a vision and plan for the next five years of the GCAA.

Under the guidance of the High-Level Champions, the Marrakech Partnership convenes a series of activities during the Conferences of the Parties (COPs) as well as the intersessional meetings of the Subsidiary Bodies (SBs). The objective of these activities is to provide a space for impact-driven focused dialogues and interactions between non-Party stakeholders and Party representatives aiming to strengthen the collaboration for greater mitigation and adaptation actions and to identify specific and concrete policy options and solutions that assist Parties to enhance and implement their national determined contributions (NDCs). The activities intend to highlight milestones and achievements for scaling up climate action and towards the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement.
