Eighth meeting of the Consultative Group of Experts 

Summary of outcome 

The eighth meeting of the Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) took place in Bonn on 1 and 2 September 2022, from 9:00 to 17:00. A total of twenty-two CGE members attended the meeting, nineteen (19) in-person and three (3) virtually. 

The main objectives of the meeting were to review the progress of implementation of its 2022 workplan and consider the submission of the progress report to the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI).

Key summary of the outcomes of the meeting includes the following: 

• The CGE considered the 2022 progress report to the SBI, including an updated technical report on problems, constraints, lessons learned on capacity-building needs of developing country Parties.
• The group also considered matters relating to the provision of technical advice and support, including its regional workshops, webinar series, the CGE toolbox on institutional arrangements, and CGE training materials. The CGE regional hands-on training workshops will be conducted in October and December 2022.
• In addition, the group agreed to continue enhancing its communication and outreach activities and took note of the need to enhance its collaboration efforts with other expert groups and constituted bodies under the Convention and the Paris Agreement, and other intergovernmental and international organizations.
• As per its 2022 workplan, the CGE agreed to organize a side-event at COP27 and its informal forum in December to showcase its achievements and to learn from the experiences of Parties in their transition to the ETF and preparation of BTRs. The CGE requested the secretariat to make the arrangements.
• In light of the decision 14/CP.26, the CGE discussed its Rules of Procedure, with a view to updating it, but was unable to conclude its deliberation and will continue discussion on this matter.
• Finally, the CGE tentatively agreed to organize its 9^th meeting in February 2023.
