Objective
The PCCB Focus Area Day featured discussions on the key themes that emerged from the PCCB calls submissions, particularly on capacity-building for strengthening national planning and budgeting systems, improving access to climate finance, and enhancing country ownership. In this context, this thematic day would provide a space for capacity-building stakeholders to share relevant experiences, good practices, tools and methodologies, and lessons learned.
Topics
-The PCCB and the NDC Partnership brought stakeholders from the Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, Africa and Middle East & North Africa regions, to explore the capacities needed for the horizontal and vertical integration of the nationally determined contributions (NDCs) in each region.
-The Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center (OECC) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) discussed how to build capacity of governments in developing countries to engage private sector partners/ or directly strengthen capacity of private sector partners.
-FSC-Indigenous Foundation identified capacity development areas necessary for indigenous peoples to effectively influence NDCs and national discussions regarding their climate change priorities as well as areas of capacity development that the donor community should ensure to focus on to empower Indigenous Peoples for climate change action.
-WECF underlined the need to strengthen capacity-building and investment for gender-sensitive climate initiatives and open the space for exchanging experiences and views among local practitioners, researchers, and policymakers around the cross-cutting benefits of locally owned and gender-responsive climate mitigation and adaptation actions.
-Impulsouth engaged policy experts and practitioners from the global south to discuss progress and approaches for more effectiveness in capacity building for climate action and NDC implementation, especially for youth and with a gender sensitive approach.
-The PCCB Network presented the evaluation of its pilot phase brought together members of the PCCB Network to connect with peers across sectors and regions to learn about their capacity-building work.
