Seventh meeting of the Consultative Group of Experts 

Summary of outcome 

The seventh meeting of the Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) took place virtually on 28 February and 1 March 2022, from 14:00 to 17:00 (CET) on both days. Twenty-four (24) CGE members attended the meeting. 

Key summary of the outcomes of the meeting includes the following: 

• The CGE elected Mr. Alpha Kaloga (Guinea) as the Chair and Ms. Tian Wang (China) as the Rapporteur for 2022.
• Pursuant to the revised terms of reference of the CGE adopted by COP 26, the main objective of the meeting was to develop its work programme for 2022-2026, 2022 workplan including priorities and key activities in 2022.
• The CGE revised its “vision, mission and metrics to measure the progress as well as strategic priorities for 2020‐2026”, capturing additional components on lessons learned and good practices.
• The CGE successfully developed its work programme for 2022 – 2026, workplan 2022 including priorities and key activities in 2022. In addition, the group identified the following the topics for its regional hands-on training workshops and webinars for 2022, as follows:

- The regional hands-on training workshops would focus on tracking progress of NDCs under the ETF, including mitigation assessment, tracking progress of implementation and achievement of NDCs through use of indicators, and support needed and received in relation to tracking progress of NDCs;

- The regional webinars would focus on “how climate transparency arrangements matter at the national level”.

• The group agreed to continue enhancing its communication and outreach activities, and collaboration efforts with other expert groups and constituted bodies under the Convention and the Paris Agreement, and other intergovernmental and international organizations.
• In addition, the CGE initiated reviewing its Rules of Procedure with a view to taking into account, as applicable, relevant elements from the COP 26 outcomes in Glasgow. It will continue considering this matter at its 8th meeting.
• Finally, the CGE tentatively agreed to organize its 8th meeting in the week of 5 September 2022.
