CAPACITY Fellowship Programme

The CAPACITY (Capacity Award Programme to Advance Capabilities and Institutional Training in one Year) Programme targets young and mid-career professionals who are already in government service and who are nationals of and working in a small island developing State (SIDS) or a least developed country (LDC). With financial support from the Government of Italy, the programme offers fellowships at the UN Climate Change secretariat for a period of one year (renewable to two years) with a view to building local capacity for addressing climate change in SIDS and LDCs by:

  • Supporting innovative analytical work on climate change in the context of sustainable development;
  • Helping to create a network of experts that can produce creative and innovative solutions to climate change and its effects;
  • Building the leadership potential of young and promising professionals.

Early career joint fellowship programme

The UNFCCC - UNU Early Career Climate Fellowship Programme offers young people from developing countries a unique opportunity to start their career at the interface between international climate policy development and research. Academically outstanding young graduates from developing countries who are in the early stages of their career are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to women, amongst whom those from Least Developed Countries will be given the highest priority. Fellowships will last for one year, with the possibility of an extension of one further year subject to satisfactory performance. Fellows will be selected based on their skills and backgrounds vis-à-vis the respective purviews and foci of UNFCCC and UNU-EHS/ViE. Upon completion of the UNFCCC - UNU Early Career Climate Fellowship Programme, the Early Career Climate Fellows will be able to work in their home countries or internationally, deploying the valuable experience and insights they have gained in Bonn.
