Harnessing the Collective Actions of ASEAN Private Sectors – COP27 event

The COP27 UN Climate Change Conference took place from 6 to 18 November in Sham el-Sheikh Egypt. It was an opportunity to advance global climate action and foster regional collaboration for implementation of the Paris Agreement. The UN Climate Change Pavilion hosted partner events and showcased climate action to achieve the Paris Agreement.

RCC Bangkok co-organised a Pavilion event with the UN Global Compact National Networks from the ASEAN Member States to discuss Decarbonizing the ASEAN Way – Harnessing the Collective Actions of ASEAN Private Sectors.

Background

As ASEAN is one of the regions which is most vulnerable to the adverse impact of climate change, it is crucial that private sectors collectively commit and take actions to reduce emissions and to build a more resilient ASEAN economy. This session aims to: 

  1. Showcase best practices by ASEAN private sector actors from various perspectives in their decarbonization journey 
  2. Encourage more ASEAN private sector to raise their climate ambition and urgency, and align their targets to climate science via Science Based Targets 
  3. Highlight the challenges, realities and opportunities from developing economies context in decarbonizing 
  4. Showcase opportunities of collaboration between UNFCCC and GC local networks in advocating race to zero to ASEAN private sector stakeholders.
